Connect your GoDaddy domain to your website
You will add two or three records in GoDaddy, then set your bare domain (without the www) to forward to your site. Nothing changes on your email.
Before you start
- Open your Freshweb account and go to Domain & DNS. It lists the exact records for your domain. We also email them to you.
- Have your GoDaddy login to hand. If someone else set up your domain, ask them to log in, or to give us access with the GoDaddy access guide.
Open the DNS page for your domain
Sign in to GoDaddy and go to your Domain Portfolio. Select your domain to open its Domain Settings page, then select DNS.
Check for an existing www record
Look down the list for a record with the name
www. Most GoDaddy domains already have one, a CNAME pointing to@.If there is one, select Edit next to it and use it for the next step instead of adding a new record. GoDaddy only allows one record called
www.Add the records from your account
Select Add New Record. Choose the Type, then fill in Name and Value exactly as your account shows them. Leave TTL on its default.
Type Name Value CNAME wwwYour site address, ending in .fresh-web.co.ukTXT or CNAME Starts with _acme-challengeCopy it from your account Only type the first part of the name. GoDaddy adds your domain on the end for you. Typewww, notwww.yourdomain.co.uk, or the record ends up with your domain in it twice and won't work.Select Save. If you added more than one record, select Save All Records.
Forward the bare domain to www
This sends anyone who types your domain without the www (for example
yourdomain.co.uk) to your site.- Still on the DNS page, open the Forwarding tab.
- Select Add Forwarding and choose Domain.
- Choose
https://and type your www address, for examplewww.yourdomain.co.uk. - Choose Permanent (301). Don't choose Forward with masking.
- Select Save.
GoDaddy may suggest pointing yourwwwrecord back to@. Ignore that suggestion: yourwwwrecord needs to keep pointing at your Freshweb site.
Check it worked
GoDaddy says changes usually take effect within an hour, and can take up to 48 hours.
Once the records are live, your site loads at your www address with the padlock showing in the browser. We set up the secure (https) certificate automatically, which can take a little longer than the records. If it still isn't working after a day, get in touch.
