Namecheap

Connect your Namecheap domain to your website

You will remove Namecheap's parking records and add two or three of your own. The bare domain (without the www) needs one extra step from us, covered at the end.

Before you start

  • Open your Freshweb account and go to Domain & DNS. It lists the exact records for your domain. We also email them to you.
  • Have your Namecheap login to hand.
  1. Open Advanced DNS

Sign in to Namecheap and open Domain List from the left-hand menu. Select Manage next to your domain, then open the Advanced DNS tab.

  2. Remove the parking records

A new Namecheap domain comes with two records that show a parking page. Under Host Records, delete these with the bin icon on each row:

    • a CNAME Record with host www, pointing to parkingpage.namecheap.com
    • a URL Redirect Record with host @

If you see any other record with the host www, delete that too.

  3. Add the records from your account

Select Add New Record, choose the record type, and fill in Host and Value exactly as your account shows them. Leave TTL on Automatic. Select the tick at the end of the row to save it.

    TypeNameValue
CNAMEwwwYour site address, ending in .fresh-web.co.uk
TXT or CNAMEStarts with _acme-challengeCopy it from your account
Only type the first part of the host. Namecheap adds your domain on the end for you. Type www or _acme-challenge.www, never the full address, or the record ends up with your domain in it twice and won't work.
  4. Tell us when the records are in

Namecheap's own redirect for the bare domain (typing yourdomain.co.uk without the www) doesn't work with secure https links, so most browsers show an error. Don't add one.

Instead, send us a message once your www records are saved. We'll set up the bare domain for you and send you the one change needed to finish.

Check it worked

Namecheap changes usually show within 30 minutes, and can take longer.

Once the records are live, your site loads at your www address with the padlock showing in the browser. We set up the secure (https) certificate automatically, which can take a little longer than the records. If it still isn't working after a day, get in touch.
